22 June - 28 June File Art + Text Inroduction Pt 1

This is a powerpoint file.  The 'lecture' component is part of the powerpoint as presenter's notes, so in order to read the lecture, you must play this in presentation mode, as if you are presenting it yourself.  Any issues with this, please ask!

File Art + Text Introduction Pt 1 (PDF version)

Art + Text Introduction Pt 1 (PDF version). This version has notes embedded in a PDF document under each image. (This is the same presentation as the above ppt file, just a different format)

File Art + Text Inro Pt. 2 (PDF only)

Art + Text Introduction Pt 2 (PDF version). I integrated the text into the slide presentation this time to make it easier to read and view images at the same time. I hope this format works ok for everyone - let me know of any issues!

17 August - 23 August Page Larissa's Links (Please look through all of the links on this page)

In past semesters, when I have taught courses on Art + the Archive, I have invited Larissa Beringer (Art Librarian extrordinaire) to do a talk on Libraries and Archives in contemporary art. She always has a lot of amazing things to say and show... but this term, I have not asked her to do a talk online as it is a lot of extra work to ask her to do. So, I am sharing the list of links she provided me with on a bunch of art projects that she would normally talk about in relation to 'The Library and the Archive'. Please look through all of these links, and you will get a chance to discuss in relationship to this week's readings in the Forum (up soon).

Photographs Not Taken (link to a description of this book of photographers' 'essays' about pictures they did not take with a few audio files of some of the included essays.)

"Photographs Not Taken is a collection of essays by photographers about moments that never became a picture. Conceived and edited by Will Steacy, each photographer was asked to abandon the camera and, instead, use words to recreate the image that never made it through their lens."

21 September - 27 September URL Course Evaluations (Please fill in by April 20th - don't forget!)

This is a link to do online course evaluations for this course. I want to make sure you all take the time to fill this in - these are very important both to me as a faculty member (I will be applying for tenure next year and they use these to evaluate me) but also so the school can get feedback on the course.

Mostly these are used as an official way of evaluating faculty performance, so please specify where your feedback is related to me and my performance, and when it is more about the school/structure of the curriculum and resources.

I will also be posting a separate Wrap-Up Forum, in which I will be asking you for specific feedback on this course (and this alternative web-hosting scenario) that will help me improve the course next time I teach it, and I welcome any feedback and suggestions during or after the course ends.

28 September - 4 October File Lucy Lippard "Escape Attempts" essay on beginning of Conceptual Art

Lucy Lippard "Escape Attempts", Reconsidering the Object of Art 1965-1975, ed. Ann Goldstein and Anne Rorimer (Cambridge, Mass.: MIT Press, 1996).
