This senior level course provides students with an opportunity to develop a body of work in conversation with others around a specific topic (chosen by the instructor and circulated prior to registration). Repeatable for further credit.

This course will cover principles, workflows and processes to animate realistic and believable 3D quadruped locomotion. The various gaits of quadrupeds and how anatomy influences movement patterns will be explored in depth. Students will manipulate complex quadruped rigs to achieve desired performances using rig controls and learn to use the graph editor to create convincing timing and weight specific to quadruped movement. Students will also create rigged props with constraint systems for object interaction with 3D character rigs. This course will cover best practices of scene setup and organization to share animation between different scenes and build up an animation library. Students should have introductory experience with building a 3D biped rig and animating a biped walk. Students will come away with a library of quadruped movement patterns and supporting technical skills they can apply to future production pipelines.
