(DATABASE) PROJECT THREE: Three Strong Sketches

Lin Jiang

This story is about my younger brother's childhood stories. The first sketch is a photo of him as a child in a wooden frame with an Air Canada ticket under the frame, indicating that we live in different countries and I am going to visit him.

The second sketch is about him playing with the puppy and chicks outside, his textbook being used as a hat to wear on his head.

The third sketch depicts him riding a rocking horse with other toys around him.

I chose a Chinese actor, Tianyu Chen as the main actor because he is a really adorable little boy.

Here is an annotation of the 3 sketches featured above. After doing my research I realized I really like the stylization of graphic posters (silkscreen) with a punch. Nothing too intricate but still allows for detail to be added when necessary. Along with allowing space for the title and information to be placed within it.

Here is the collection of my thumbnails I did for this project! I had lots of fun playing with form and action within the poster itself. I plan on creating a poster for a MUSICAL PRODUCTION. So it makes sense that there would be some drama to it. I also intend on making this project analogue style via monotype and silkscreen if possible. 

Shuya Zhong(Savanna)

My story is about me and my childhood friend. Since our parents are good friends, we grew up together and went to the same kindergarten, elementary school, and junior high school. We learned together, traveled together, and grew up together. This movie will tell all kinds of stories of happiness, trouble, and fun that we encountered together. The actor I chose is Haoran Liu. He is a famous young actor in China. The TV series "With you" he starred in depicts the growth of the male and female protagonists. It is a very popular show among young people in China.

I put all my sketches on one page, so for the other two images I added two Jugend covers that I found really exciting. My zine is about my childhood best friend Chantel that I recently got back in contact with, so I want my final image to show a sense of time passing.

 I decided to use the characters I created from random doodling a while ago to make a piece that's inspired by the mix of 

my cousin, my step-sister, and myself. Fragments of our characteristics and experience are revealed in turns throughout the story.

My friend TYE from 2008 and our pen pal adventures post parting ways and countries. Which was very gloomy and felt very disconnected as we slowly lost touch.

This is about my friend Mireille who loves to travel. She went on a school exchange program in 2017-2018 and I was able to meet up and travel with her in the summer of 2018. We keep in touch here and there, but when we meet up, it's like as if time has never stopped. I'm quite liking the first and third sketches, and might go with either or depending on what I can work with!
