I chose to create a poster about a young female campus comedy film. This poster will summarize the main idea of the story with an exaggerated picture. Although I would classify this film as a comedy, there is a lot of tragedy at its core. The protagonist has suffered from gender stereotypes and body discrimination, but she has always stood up for herself. Standing on a mountain of objects and symbols belonging to her own world, she begins her lonely "journey" alone. As a "normal person" in the eyes of the public, I could understand her, but because of the estrangement of this "mountain", I was farther and farther away from her, and I could not reach out my hand to her on the top. We had agreed to travel to the seaside together. However, although we were in the same sea, we could not touch each other because we were not at the same height. Finally, we could only drift apart.

I chose to do a poster of an old friend depicting the life of growing up in a small town. Not a lot happens in small towns... So, I tried to add as much reference to the zine made in part one of the project as much as possible (referencing perhaps a "coming of age" story, or just a "feel good" movie about friends). Adding in a tire from his first car. His interests and hobbies like hockey and airsoft. I even added an old sketch of a previous poster idea with a photo of the other characters in the background. His character is laying off the bed as one does when bored. As for the font, I tried to play around a bit with the cast credits. Acting like shadows being cast onto the floor from the bedroom window.

My poster includes the non binary flag as its colour palette (black, white, purple, and yellow) to reflect Beck’s gender identity. We knew each other long before either of us transitioned and religion was a huge obstacle for the two of us respectively. Beck is a first generation Canadian from an extremely religious Ethiopian family. I wanted to illustrate the nuanced and challenging relationship that Beck has with religion. The cross that they hold close also weighs them down. Just like the background, the world that surrounds Beck exists in black and white as they hide their transness from their family and embraces a religion that condemns them.

I chose the “Sex Education,” star Dua Saleh to portray Beck in the film. It is important to me to find accurate representation for marginalized people when it comes to the media. Due is also a black non binary person who is close in age to Beck. Unfourtunately, there are still lots of groups that are not given roles in media so I was not able to find an actor who was also plus sized. I still think Saleh would portray Beck wonderfully but I acknowledge that Saleh is straight sized and that leaves out a facet of Beck’s experience.

For this poster I decided on a play called BRENT which is about a coming-of-age story of an asian-canadian boy living in Canada. He encounters many things that he likes, like comics, posters, basketball, meets new friends and also sees new things. I chose green for the freshness of seeing everything new.
