Q: I get a security warning when trying to log into Moodle, what do I do?

Issue: When logging into Moodle I get directed to a warning page that says: “Your connection is not fully secure”,“SSL obsolete” or something about the site using “TLS 1.0 or TLS 1.1"

The warning is because the servers that host our single sign on system need to be upgraded to be able to connect using the most up to date security settings. IT is working on completing that work as soon as possible.

Solution: You should still be able to connect by clicking on the Advanced choice/button and then following through by selecting to proceed (ignoring the "unsecure" warning). It is safe to click the button in the advanced section of the warning that says to proceed.

Using the ECU Moodle site is perfectly safe. Moodle uses features that some browsers automatically flag as malignant behaviour. To prevent being prompted by this security warning you can add courses.ecuad.ca to you safe list within your browser's settings.

Q: I get logged out of Moodle when I am uploading content or using My Media/Kaltura, what do I do?

Solution: This is predominately a problem for Chrome users. Try updating your Chrome browser to the latest version or try using Firefox or Safari.

If the problem persists in Chrome follow these instructions:

    • In the address bar in Chrome, type in chrome://flags
    • Then search for samesite
    • Change the following two settings from Default to Disabled:
      • SameSite by default cookies = Disabled
      • Cookies without SameSite must be secure = Disabled
    • Relaunch Chrome.
