CSPD-105-SU01-2025: Business Planning for Creative Practitioners

This course offers creative practitioners a structured and supportive environment to explore how their values, skills, and practices can form the foundation of a sustainable business or independent practice. Using the Business Model Canvas as a flexible framework, students will define their purpose, identify their audience, and articulate the value of their work — while also reflecting critically on the systems they operate within.

Each session blends practical tools with deeper conversations around equity, care, labour, and alternative economies. Through weekly checkpoints, peer dialogue, and reflective mapping exercises, students will draft a values-aligned business plan that centres their creative goals and community commitments.

Topics include purpose and vision, empathy mapping, identifying needs and gaps, defining offerings, ethical marketing, budgeting and alternative revenue models, stakeholder support systems, and sustainable workflows. The course culminates in a peer-supported final presentation of a draft plan or canvas.

No prior business experience is required — just a willingness to explore, experiment, and imagine.
