CSSO-109-F001-2025: Adobe CC Essentials
Welcome! I’m excited to work with all of you and have created a class jam-packed with goodies about three of Adobe’s biggest software programs, Photoshop, Illustrator and Indesign, to use in your personal and professional work.

This course combines art & design theory, demos and skills practice and project work. You will be able to identify which program is the most suited for a task or project, learn project planning steps and how to alter photos, design a poster, create a simple branding package, and create and publish a multipage document.

Learning Goals:
When you complete the class, you will have a solid knowledge of the basics of Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and Indesign in a graphic design context, and identify which program is best for a particular task or part of a design workflow. I will be teaching the basics of art and design theory, design thinking and project planning that you can apply to any software tools and workflows going forward, and will help you to identify resources to continue learning, especially as software is changing so quickly.

Projects:
You can start gathering ideas, reference and sketches for:

  • Due Sept 25 [Photoshop]:  An altered photo (change colours, add textures, add/remove elements etc)
  • Due Oct 9 [Photoshop]:   A simple digital painting from a photograph or film/tv still (9×12)
  • Optional  Due Oct 30: Halloween graphic for social media
  • Due Nov 6 [Photoshop and/or Illustrator]:  A poster, book cover or band album, with text
  • Due Dec 4 [Illustrator]:  Branding: a logo for yourself or a real or fictitious company (symbol with type)
  • Due Dec 15: [Indesign]:  3-5 page newsletter, calendar, lookbook, or a graphic novel
