PRNT-226-F091-2021: Print Media: Textile Printing, Surface + Pattern Design

This online iteration of the PRNT 226 course is designed so that all projects can be done at home, with minimal equipment. We will be working primarily with low-tech block-printing relief techniques, supplemented with demonstrations in additional techniques as time and interest permit. Classes will be a mix of synchronous and asynchronous activity, with some flexibility in terms of the ways that you can participate fully with the projects and with your classmates. Projects will build upon each other, and focus on working with and thinking through patterns - designing them; printing them; understanding and unpacking their structures, histories, and contexts. There will be studio-based projects as well as some small research assignments. We will use moodle as a container for course information, course videos, assignments, and some introductory activities; blogs for posting and responding to work; zoom for synchronous activities. We will alternate between meeting as a full class and meeting individually or in smaller groups.

For students who are in the YVR area and are able to come to campus, there will be optional orientations and workshops available by sign up.
