This 3rd year core studio invites you to consider and explore the connections and roles of clothing and disruption in our current context. Content and work produced will draw and build on research, perspectives and insights garnered through local ECU initiatives such as the cloTHING(s) as Conversation research project, the Material Matters TARP (textile adaptation research program), the Fall 2020 Fibreshed Field school. International initiatives such as Fashion Revolution, Earth Logic and the Union of Concerned Researchers in Fashion will also inform the work. Clothing and the global fashion design/production system (assumed longstanding prototyping strategies and production processes) will be interrogated. New propositions (cloth based artifacts and systems of making clothing) that respond to needs of care for the planet, care for the places we live and the people we live with will be collectively envisaged. Along with speculative scenarios, storytelling and hands on making the course will also be an opportunity to learn and apply CLO, a digital drafting platform used increasingly in the industry context to envisage clothes and create patterns for sample/prototypes and manufacture.
