This section of FNDT 160 focuses on building techniques and skills in video and sound, specifically using DSLR cameras to record video, video editing and composition, listening and sound making, sound recording and sound editing and sound/music composition. Students who have sound/music or video experience are welcome to explore and expand on their interests. The majority of class time is spend on campus in synchronous classes. There will be asynchronous studio/lab time for students to complete their assignments and projects. On campus workshops will incorporate experiential learning and making by using methods that combine sensory and perceptual experiences. Students are asked to engage with assignments and projects that develop their observation and listening skills, and explore how this leads to discovery and creativity. Workshops include the use of video and sound equipment, video software, sound software, and electronics to build simple microphones. These will take place in the computer lab, the WIP Lab and the Sound Lab. Students will engage with self-reflective processes throughout the course and learn to document their projects in photographs and text and use professional online platforms such as Vimeo and Soundcloud.
