Topic: Dialogues with Painting and Expanded Practises

This course offers the opportunity for students to develop their practice within the discourse of contemporary and historical art discourse amongst expanded fields within and beyond painting. The notion of expanded fields allows for diverse lenses for making and thinking, in relation to forces and emerging dynamics that erupt from hybrid painting practices, that shift, and that may become entangled with other components, prompting generative studio processes such as materiality into thingness, expansion, exchange, networks, response, embodiment, haunting, bridging, substitution, collisions, erosion, reversals, language and energy transformations, atemporality, improvisation. This Dialogues course encourages investigation of artistic practice based on a student's own interest to situate their work in relation to a broader spectrum of thematic leanings in contemporary art, which is itself entangled with other knowledge practices and cultural phenomena.
