One of the primary challenges with designing for emerging technologies is the lack of established interface paradigms. While existing interfaces can solve some problems of emerging technology design, many new challenges are created by this innovation and can only be solved by the application of consistent design methodology.

This course will allow students to work on an emerging technologies project, with a particular focus on interface design. We will be exploring the wide range of strategies that designers use to communicate with users, and the methods they use to evaluate those design choices. Emphasis will be put on the creative and critical use of technology, as well as the strategic use of prototyping and testing procedures.

Students will take their projects through three cycles of ideation, prototyping, and testing with the goal of creating a medium to high-fidelity prototype by the end of the class.
