Introduces issues relevant to painting today and develops painting skills. Students acquire a basic technical grounding in the medium and develop an understanding of materials, colour, composition and representation. Through a series of assigned projects, including some based on observation, students address a variety of contemporary and historical painting concerns. Classes combine technical workshops and discussions with individual and group critiques. Painting 200 and 210 can be taken in any order, and students require both to take PNTG 310: Advanced Painting.
