The subject chosen by our group is animals. The painting was inspired by a Chinese story called "Drawing the Finishing Touch," in which a man draws the eyes of a dragon and the dragon comes to life.

This was inspired by a quote from a biologist on the taxonomy of mushrooms and how they're neither plant nor animal nor something in between. Hence: creature, if you stretch the definition.

The theme of this card is magnolia flower. Magnolia flower is a flower type from China. It symbolizes fragrance and purity. Its flowers are beautiful, pure and flawless, and the flowers are fragrant and refreshing. The fresh temperament is often praised by literati as a symbol of noble quality. White flowers also symbolize loyalty, and people hope that it will remain in bloom for a long time, which symbolizes the unswerving determination of love. The image of the little girl in the picture is a cartoon version of me who’s wearing a tiger costume which represents my zodiac.

For our group, we went with animals as our theme. I chose to depict the Siberian weasel, with emphasis on its negative connotations in Northeastern Chinese folklore. The Siberian weasel, or huang shulang, is often portrayed as an ill-intending creature capable of leading humans astray with trickery and promises of wealth, which have led people to both fear and revere it.

The theme of my group is: orb, frame and warm or cool colors. I thought about how cut fruit is a way of shown affection by my mom, and as for many other people who grew up with Asian culture. Here I represented orb with orbular fruits and this framed moment as warmth.
