I cannot post a new discussion topic in the previous forum, so I will include these thoughts here.
Other institutions, VIU is an excellent example, have invested heavily in faculty development through staffing. Their teaching and learning department is now staffed by 8 (soon to be 9) full-time people, all of whom have education and experience in curriculum development, teaching support, and learning technologies (support and development). Our sister A&D school, OCAD, has recently built a faculty development office that is now staffed by 5 full-time people.
It would be nice to see a commitment to hiring professionals in the field of education development as part of this strategic plan. Perhaps this could begin with bringing in a consultant from another institution (VIU for example) to help us do a needs assessment and build a longer term strategy for developing this area.
